I have literally been asked to do this design for three years and over 100 times. I’ve been a little hesitant to tackle this because the scale intake size would never happen. Then you run into the issue of making the air frame not scale. I’ve made three different design iterations to try and size the intakes as small as humanly possible and keep it as scale as possible, without sacrificing too much thrust loss. I can say I’ve been successful in this mission and this is a fun flying F-20!
Another big consideration with this air frame was whether to do the F-5 or F-20. The F 20 won this round because it’s already struggling for thrust with the small intakes. Now you add a bifurcated exhaust and it makes everything even worse. The single exhaust of the F-20 was definitely the way to go. The third hurdle were the horizontal stabilizers. Doing full, flying horizontal stabilizers would be disastrous on landing. The front edge of the tails are simply going to dig into the grass and get ripped off every time being so low on the bottom of the air frame. You have zero loss in pitch authority doing it this way. In fact, you actually need to reduce your pitch levels because it has so much pitch authority. Any intermediate pilot will accelerated stall this air frame.
The F-20 is a fantastic flying airplane, easy to hand launch and is fun to build and fly!

Parts Needed
-Any 50mm. I used an X fly 50 mm galaxy 4S. You want to choose your most powerful for S 50 mm Setup. I do recommend possibly using a 3S fan on 4S to get a little extra thrust.
-any 40mamp ESC
-I used a 1500 4s lipo. 1300–1500 optimal
-3.5mm ESC extension wires
-4x 4.3g servos https://a.co/d/00MhO6ow
-4x servo wire extensions
-1.2mm pushrod
-Velcro for the battery and ESC
-Hot Glue for the fan and servos
-Medium CA glue for the whole build
Only build tip is to run the extension wires connected to the EDF through the fuselage before you glue fuselage five and four together. You can still assemble the plane completely glued together. It just makes it a little bit more difficult.I had to use a wire puller.
